Delhi Cabinet approves fee hike in private schools

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday, through a cabinet decision, has hiked the private school fee structure up to Rs 500.
The schools were placed under five different slabs. As per the decision those schools charging Rs 500 as fee per month would be allowed to hike their fees by Rs 100. Similarly schools whose fee structure is between Rs 500 to Rs 1000 would hike their fee by Rs 200, schools charging fees between Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 would hike their fee by Rs 300 and those charging between Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 would hike it by Rs 400. The maximum hike has been allowed to those schools whose fees are above Rs 2000.
Speaking to the Times of India, education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said that the arrears are also divided into five slabs. He said: “The arrears to be paid from January 2006 to the teachers in two equal installments have been divided into five categories which are Rs 500 for those schools hiking their fee by Rs 100, Rs 1000 for those hiking their fee by Rs 200, and Rs 2000, Rs 3000 and Rs 4000 for those hiking their fees by Rs 300, Rs 400 and Rs 500 respectively.''
Rina Ray, secretary, education, had submitted the sub-committee's report on the fee hike on Tuesday.
The new fee structure would be effective from September 2008. According to Lovely, ``By April 30 all the teachers should get the hiked salary as per the 6 th pay commission as well as the arrears. If any schools have any grievances they can show their accounts to the committee set up under the director, directorate of education within 30 days of this notification. The committee would then decide if there is a further hike necessary for the said schools.''
